Awards & Achievements

Muhammad Ali has won many awards and had many achievements.


  • In 1959, Ali was National Golden Gloves light heavyweight champion and national amateur athletic union champion.
  • In 1960, he was national Golden Gloves light heavyweight champion, national amateur athletic union champion and won a gold medal in Rome Olympics as a lightweight boxing.
  • From 1964 to 1967, he remained world heavyweight champion.
  • In 1970, Ali got Dr. Martin Luther King memorial award.
  • In 1974, he was nominated Sportsman of The Year by Sports Illustrated, and he also got a title of Fighter Of The Year by Boxing Writers Association.
  • From 1974 to 1978, he was a world champion again.
  • In 1979, he was also a world heavyweight champion.
  • In 1979, Ali got Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Southern University and he also had a street named after him in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • In 1985, he got recognition for long, meritorious service from World Boxing Association.
  • In 1987, he was elected to Boxing Hall of Fame.
  • In 1990, he was inducted into International Boxing Hall of Fame and he was also honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard.
  • In 1996, he was chosen to light the Summer Olympic torch at Atlanta, Georgia.
  • In 1997, he got Arthur Ashe Award for Courage from ESPN and also got Essence Living Legend award.
  • In 2005, he got the Presidential Citizens Medal and Presidential Medal of Freedom by then President George W. Bush.
